I hope you’re enjoying the summer season (also known as construction season) in Saskatoon. There are many amazing festivals and events happening around our city and I encourage you and your family to get out and enjoy everything that our community has to offer. Many folks take holidays over July and August, but City Council continues to meet through these months and there is lots of work happening all around Saskatoon to upgrade roads and sidewalks and make our community an even better place to live. In Northeast Saskatoon, there is lots on the go with the North Bridge and McOrmond Overpass projects in full swing. Please be careful when you’re in construction zones and be aware of the speed limits that are in place so everyone gets home safely at the end of each work day.
The last few months have been busy and challenging at City Hall. In the March 2017 provincial budget, it was announced that more than $11 million in funding for our community was being cut, which meant that Council had to reopen our city budget that was passed back in December 2016. Through a combination of program reductions, a municipal wage freeze, and a modest change to property taxes, Council tabled a balanced budget that seeks to meet the needs of our community. You will continue to see a focus on building and maintaining infrastructure in our city while working to keep life affordable for you and your family.
I also continue to work on issues that matter to the residents of Ward 10. Addressing traffic flow issues, improving pedestrian safety, fixing our streets, and working towards proper recreation facilities in our Northeast neighbourhoods continue to be my priorities. Please feel free to drop me a line if you have other ideas about how we can make our community a fantastic place to be.
As always, it is an absolute honour to serve you at City Hall. I hope you can make some time to say hi and attend my 5th Annual Ward 10 Community BBQ on August 23rd or pop by a Coffee With Your Councillor session. I look forward to seeing you in the neighbourhood over the rest of the summer.
All the best,
